Maths and English assessment

Level:  Intermediate / Advanced

Duration:  Two sessions: one for English and one for Maths - 5 hours each

Description:  Assessment of literacy and numeracy are under the political (and funding) spotlight as perhaps never before. What are the key issues in the assessment of these subjects?

There is cross-party political support for all British people attaining baseline levels of literacy and numeracy. This includes young adults continuing their learning and development in these core subjects after the age of 16. Correspondingly, many people aged 16 and over are studying for and acquiring qualifications in Mathematics and English.

This programme looks at the range of approaches to specifying the curriculum for these subjects, and assessing them in adult and school settings, and for a range of academic and vocational purposes.

Topics covered:

  • key issues in the assessment of Mathematics and English
  • comparing syllabuses for a range of qualifications type; GCSE, GCE, functional skills and QCF Mathematics and English
  • functionality in Mathematics and English

Typical Task – issues to consider when developing assessment content for your Mathematics and English qualifications for post-16 year olds.
