AlphaPlus

Turning education and skills policy into practice

Roles for item writers, reviewers, and consultants

AlphaPlus Consultancy write and review items and tests for various clients.  We are currently seeking to build our capacity in two key areas:

  • National Curriculum tests at Key Stage 2, covering Levels 3–5 and, where applicable, the single level test at Level 6
  • Functional Skills assessments at Levels 1 and 2

The National Curriculum tests cover English, mathematics and science, whilst the Functional Skills assessments cover English, mathematics and ICT.

Although we do not currently have specific contract opportunities, we may also look to extend our activities in:

  • Key Stage 1 tests
  • the phonics screening check
  • optional national curriculum tests for years 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9
  • entry level in Functional Skills.

The following roles are therefore of interest.

Test item authors

We are interested in hearing from individuals with experience in writing test items in these subjects at these levels, and ideally in the identified test types.  We will also consider individuals who have experience in teaching and marking these assessments, who wish to develop test writing expertise. Our test item authors work from home as self-employed individuals, under the terms of a framework agreement, completing agreed work packages associated with particular contracts that AlphaPlus agree with their customers.

Test item reviewers

We are also interested in individuals with experience in teaching or marking tests at the appropriate levels and subjects listed above, who can act as reviewers, acting as critical friends to the authoring teams. In particular, we are looking for individuals who can provide input on issues such as the age appropriateness of material, inclusivity of material and accessibility of material.
