Gillian is an experienced senior developer of large scale qualification, curriculum and assessment development projects. During her career she has worked for NFER, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the University of Cambridge International Exams (CIE) and Edexcel/Pearson. Whilst at the CIPS she was response for the operation of the awarding organisation function and as such was instrumental in the development of the awarding organisation policies and procedures. Whilst at CIE and Edexcel she develop a raft of written documentation in support of a wide range of qualifications and assessment suites including the Pre-U, IGCSE, VGCSE, Applied GCE, GCSE and GCE. This written documentation ranged from Codes of Practice to Handbooks for Centres.
Kath Fanning has 14 years’ experience as an awarding organisation senior manager. She led in the areas of regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development and implementation, malpractice and appeals, HR and customer service. She was involved as a key contributor to the achievement of awarding body recognition in 2001. She led on the incorporation and relocation of the organisation, post-accreditation monitoring activity of QCF-based qualifications, internal audit for compliance with regulatory requirements, organisational restructures, devised, implemented and delivered comprehensive staff training on a whole range of new policies and procedures, established customer service standards, monitoring and evaluation, and implemented a customer relationship management system.
Gavin has extensive experience project managing and quality assuring qualification design, high stakes assessment development and trials for governmental and sector based clients. Gavin has delivered training to clients in the UK and abroad covering topics from the theory of assessment and how it impacts qualification design, through to specialist operation training focussed on the delivery of assessments to underpin newly developed qualifications. Expertise includes the practical application of statistics and the use of IT productivity tools to support the secure and efficient development of assessment material.
John has worked for over 10 years in e-assessment developing three businesses (AlphaPlus, BTL Group and Virtual College) which now enjoy market leading positions in learning and assessment. In his current role at AlphaPlus he advises UK and international clients on e-assessment and wider assessment matters, as well as leading the development of qualifications and assessments, and providing training to UK and overseas awarding organisations.
His UK clients include: Edexcel, City and Guilds, SQA, NCTL, UFI learndirect, BBC, DfE, BIS, Ofqual, STA, JISC, the Home Office, the Driving Standards Agency and awarding bodies in various professional sectors. His work in e-assessment includes both formative and summative settings, at all education phases (primary to HE), and vocational settings, and covers a wide range of assessment instruments – on-screen objective tests, on-screen essays, e-portfolios, simulation-based assessment and on-screen marking. John is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors and a founder board member of the e-Assessment Association.
